Habitat:

Plant is widely distributed throughout India in dry situation as weed ascending to 1500 meter on the Himalaya, abundant by road sides and wastelands, mainly in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, South-East Malaysia, Australia, and Polynesia region and Ceylon.

• In  Ayurveda,  plant is  described  as  pungent,  bitter,  digestive,  alternative  astringent. 
• Stems, flowers, fruits are bitter, carminative. Root decoction used as febrifuge, effective diuretic and expectorant.

• Bark, Leaves, Roots and Fruits.

Active Components:

The fruits are reported to contain several steroidal alkaloids, caffeic acid, coumarins, steroids, and triterpenes, alkaloids, phenolics, flavanoids, sterol, saponins and their glycosides.

Used for:

• Useful in bronchitis, asthma, Sinusitis, Cough and expectoration.
• rejuvenation. 
• Used for fever relieving and thirst.
•  Given in dysuria and urinary concretions.
• The leaves have good application for piles.
• The fruit is laxative.
• Panchang (whole herb including roots) and berries, have anthelmintic property.
• Useful in the treatment of Baldness, Ear infection, Eye diseases.
• It has several pharmacological effects like antipyretic, antitumor, hypotensive, antianaphylactic, antiasthmatic, and aphrodisiac activities.
