Habitat:

  • The mother region of this herb is South-east Asia. Still, the plant is grown artificially in China, India, the USA, tropical areas and West Indies.
  • Ginger is a plant native to Southeast Asia that is also grown in the United States, China, India, and various tropical regions. The root is usually the part of the plant used in herbal remedies.

The main active part of the herb is its root.

 

Active Components:

Volatile oil (zingiberene), sesquiterpenes, oleo-resins (gingerols, shogaols), starch, proteins, lipids, nutrients, amino acids. The basic elements contained in volatile oils are bisabolene and zingiberene.

 

Used for:

  • Ginger increases the flow of saliva and is a stimulating tonic for the digestive system. It is used in upset stomach, cramping, motion sickness, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite and aids digestion.
  • It has anti-inflammatory effect (reduces pain and swelling).
  • Used in Sore-throat, laryngitis and cold.
  • It increases the peripheral circulation and detoxifies the body from toxins associated with rheumatism.
  • It is also sometimes promoted for arthritis or joint and muscle pain. 
  • Can be used topically for inflammatory conditions such as RA, OA, bursitis and muscle sprains.
  • Used as a pungent spice for cooking. 

 

Safety:

1-10 grams (1-10 masha) per day.
